Fighting hunger is a team effort. Feeding America’s nationwide network provides food to 25 million people every year, and strong U.S. government programs are also vital to meet the nutritional needs of low-income Americans.
The business sector,including farmers, food manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers, and others, also plays an instrumental role in battling hunger.
By donating food and transportation and promoting volunteerism, businesses of all sizes help put food on the tables of families in need. While businesses already make substantial contributions to fight hunger, improved public policies.
Particularly passage of the Good Samaritan Hunger Relief Tax Incentives Act,will promote even greater business participation in this effort.

Senate Cuts Food Stamps!
Really guys!

Medicaid is a basic need, even if many doctors will not accept patients who do not also have Medicare!
A Shocking Fact! I know of such cases, in people extremely ill!
Unable to travel miles to clinics!
(The package would provide $16 billion to the states to extend funding for Medicaid, the state-federal health care program for low-income residents. Demand for Medicaid services and the program's cost have risen sharply as a result of the recession and slow recovery).

This is a brief history of the food stamp program.
It emphasize the point that hunger and poverty at this level did (and still does) exist here in the USA.
In the waves of rancor and stigma directed to welfare recipients, it is easy to lose sight of the benefits of such programs.
Hunger in the US in a non partisan issue, but we cannot sit back and wait for the government to help those in need.
As human beings and citizens of the United States, we have a civil and moral duty to care for one another. If we did so, there would be no need for welfare programs.
So get involved. Start a food bank, join a food drive, adopt a neighborhood homeless person and share your leftovers.
And do it more than just once a year at Christmastime.

Senate Proposes Cuts In Food Stamp Funds
As the Washington Post's Ezra Klein explains, last year's federal Recovery Act increased the amount of money for food stamps, or the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP), to about $80 more per household each month.

This is an important issue!
It won't impact me much.
But people who, and there are many really poor out there, will suffer!
So naturally I am turning to you for help.

None of These Three Areas Is The Place To Cut Spending.
Food, Medical Care and Good Teachers Are Programs that don't even begin to fill the needs of poor Americans who need all three of these resources to survive!

In my opinion cuts should be made in government waste. See what's not working and crack down on governmental waste.

The expense accounts, and $300 meeting lunches that go on all over Washington, anywhere in the country!

People like whatever Senators would take the food out of a poor persons mouth, we know have Never Been hungry. Why would they be? They have an expense account!
Time does not permit the horror stories of normal, everyday government waste.
In my college office every shipment we got a couple of boxes of pens that wouldn't write. Never wrote, but the company got rid of their dried out stock part of a lowest bid office package. Maybe cost 2 cents per office.
Adds up Country wide. This was just an allegory although true.
This is an unavoidable, expense.

And Naturally we've all heard about the screwdrivers that cost $39 and a lot of examples of overpaying, etc. This is not unavoidable!

Expediters will show how much money can be found just by cutting corners.
Purchasing practices could be one area to scrutinize for savings.

And I'd make all the crooks pay back all the money they stole!

I know no Senator will take a 5 percent cut in salary and benefits to save these and implement still much needed programs.

Which the American People Rich or Poor Are Entitled To.
We put them into office to get rich to begin with!

People like to try and blame you for America's Problems President Obama.
But You Are Doing A Magnificent Job for The Mess You've Been Left To Clean Up!

1. The price of food has not gone down!
From my experience at the Supermarket register, Food prices have increased
at least one third UP not DOWN1

2. If you eat any meat at all $80 worth of food may feed one person for 5 days!
Are not the poor entitled to eat, the rich think they themselves, are!

3. Why doesn't the Senate take a measly 2 percent cut in their salaries.
That should make up for a large part of America's fiscal problems
right there!

President Obama, it's up to you whether or not to veto this bill. Guess we're a little outnumbered and there is no money! Gotta take what's available! But as afore mentioned give me that budget and I'll show where to trim it! LOL

Congress Passes Child Nutrition Bill, But SNAP Cuts Must Be Fixed!
Congress Must Fund Child Nutrition Bill

The School Breakfast Program and the National School Lunch Program are permanently authorized.

However the other child nutrition programs that affect school nutrition operators must be reauthorized every five years.
The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), State Administrative Expenses (SAE), the Special Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) and other smaller pieces of the complete package of child nutrition programs must be renewed because they have actual expiration dates. On Monday, December 13, 2010, President Barack Obama signed S. 3307, the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act into law.

On December 9, the House of Representatives unanimously passed the Weekends Without Hunger Act (H.R. 5012), which Feeding America has been working to pass. This bill would support community efforts to feed low-income children during weekends and long school holidays. If the bill passes the Senate before Congress adjourns for the year, it would result in new opportunities for food banks to feed children on the weekends when they don't have access to child nutrition programs. Help us urge the Senate to pass this important legislation.

On September 14th, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid announced that he will bring the DREAM Act up for a vote on the Senate floor as an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act, which the Senate will soon be considering.
Restrictionist members of the Senate are likely to threaten a filibuster of the bill, meaning that in order for the DREAM Act to be considered on the merits, it will first have to win 60 votes to stop the filibuster.

* The DREAM Act is bipartisan legislation that gives eligible young people who were brought to the U.S. as children the opportunity to resolve their immigration status and work towards citizenship. To move from being undocumented to being a U.S. citizen, those eligible will have to pass background checks and be of good moral character, graduate from high school, and go on to complete additional requirements related to attending college or completing military service.

The DREAM Act is supported by 70 percent of likely voters and by leaders in education, the military, business and religious orders.

* A national poll of 1,008 adults, conducted by Opinion Research Corporation for First Focus in June 2010, shows that support cuts across regional and party lines with 70 percent overall support.

* University presidents and educational associations, as well as military recruiters, business and religious leaders have called on Congress to pass the DREAM Act.

The DREAM Act is a great return on money we have already invested and will prepare the country for the global economy.

* The students who would benefit under the DREAM Act have been raised and educated in the U.S. State and local taxpayers have already invested in the education of these children in elementary and secondary school. America deserves a return on their investment.

* Leading businesses such as Microsoft have endorsed the DREAM Act because they recognize that our broken immigration system is draining our economy of the talent and resources needed to compete in the global economy.

The DREAM Act promises to dramatically increase the pool of highly qualified recruits for the U.S. Armed Forces.

* There is a strong tradition of military service in immigrant families, but the lack of immigration status prevents many of those who wish to serve from enlisting.

Passage of the DREAM Act will increases revenues in our communities.
* Enabling 800,000 immigrant students access to higher education would go a long way in inspiring other immigrant youth to strive for a college education. This will help boost the number of high skilled American-raised workers. As they take their place as hard working, taxpaying Americans, they will contribute a lifetime of revenues at the local, state and federal level.

I'm Calling On All Who Have The Power, Turn This Trend Around immediately!

Like Role Models. Reverend Jackson, Reverend Sharpton, Sports And Media Stars, etc.
Tell The Young People The Truth!
Tell Them Plymouth Rock Isn't Just Landing On Them, They're hitting each other over the head with it!

We All Need To Stand Up And Reach Out To And Teach
what's right for the benefit of today's young people.
I know Rev. Jackson and Sharpton you've spent a lifetime doing this, but some of the Media is a really bad influence!
It was in my day and it still is!

Vietnam Veterans of America Praises President, Salutes Secretary Shinseki For Move to Make PTSD Claims More Just

Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) thanks President Obama and salutes Secretary of Veterans Affairs Shinseki for the regulatory move to make the claims process less onerous for certain veterans who have legitimate claims for service connection for Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), but who have difficulty obtaining documentary evidence.

"This will make it possible for some veterans who have been unjustly denied, because they could not document the details of the stressors that caused them to have chronic acute PTSD, to finally succeed in getting justice and their claim approved," said John Rowan, VVA national president. "This regulatory amendment will make it easier for veterans to prevail regarding their claim for PTSD where their claimed stressor is related to legitimate fear of hostile military forces or terrorist activity and is consistent with their military service." A psychiatric wound is every bit as real as a gunshot wound, and this President and his team are now taking steps to
recognize this fact.

"While VVA is strongly supportive of these new regulations, we urge Secretary Shinseki to reconsider the decision that only a VA or VA-contracted psychologist or psychiatrist can make the diagnosis of PTSD," Rowan said. "At the same time that the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is moving to accept medical evidence from non-VA clinicians for disability claims for physical injuries, there should be no separate set of rules for diagnosing mental wounds like PTSD."

"We strongly believe that all psychologists and psychiatrists, VA or non-VA, who conduct PTSD examinations, should be required to use the best medical science known," Rowan said. "This diagnosis can be both objective and accurate, but only if the protocols recommended by the Institute of Medicine (IOM) of the National Academies of Science (NAS) are rigorously followed. Both VA and the Department of Defense should be ensuring that our active-duty war fighters, and our veterans of every generation, have the best care that medical science can provide, beginning with getting the diagnosis right."

"The previous Administration refused to implement the best medical science in assessing PTSD, because they said it was 'too expensive,' " Rowan said. "With the VA having recently hired almost 4,000 additional clinicians to provide mental health care to veterans suffering from their wartime experiences, the VA has no excuse why the best practices, recommended in their own VA commissioned study by the IOM, can't be followed. They need to get it right the first time."
