For ♥All My Friends In New Jersey And New York♥

Stop spectra natural gas [transportation] pipeline!
Jersey City's long- standing Opposition to the spectra gas pipeline. There is no doubt the proposed line could imperil invaluable natural habitats, precious and diverse ecosystems, billions of dollars in economic infrastructure, and the more than a quarter million residents of Jersey City”. Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy

Even; after all the destruction and flooding from hurricane sandy, federal agencies are still, allowing spectra gas, to continue with their proposed pipeline! Jersey City agency grants easement to spectra energy; City Councilman objects December 05, 2012 by Terrence T McDonald/The Jersey Journal

Jersey City has filed with the United States Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit in Washington, D.C. a Petition for Review, challenging both FERC’s constitutionality as a regulatory agency and its approval of the Spectra pipeline. The move marks the next step in the city’s legal fight against the pipeline.
Stop spectra's (Long-Haul Transportation), Gas Pipeline In NJ & NY!

I find allowing spectra to start to break ground when the case is not settled is outrageous and spectra's rush to break ground everywhere is a move to intimidate people! Psychological manipulation is a type of social influence that aims to change the perception or behavior of others through underhanded, deceptive, or even abusive tactics.

No one can claim eminent domain regarding Federally designated Historical areas. They might try to pull that on the environmentalists. But that Federal Historical status, is set in stone

I don't even want to imagine what a tidal surge wave storm like sandy would do to spectra's proposed pipeline! It's only placed a few feet underground  See question 3 frequently asked pipeline questions q Can crops be planted over a pipeline?  a Seasonal crops may be planted over the company's pipelines. While planting and tending the crops, you should take care in tilling and plowing not to damage the pipeline.

spectra corporation and others like it are and have been claiming eminent domain all over the US. What a racket!

Only thing; in Jersey City, for spectra to enter along their proposed route, they would have to cross the historic Morris Canal, (filled in). This is not only, one of the areas totally destroyed by hurricane sandy, but it is a Federally Protected environmental area and is, also and a Federally Protected Historical Site National Register of Historic Places Official Website

List of US National Historic Landmarks By State

spectra loses. spectra cannot claim eminent domain on Federally protected sites like this. Isn't this the reason for having Federally protected land?

Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy, is one heck of a guy. He is; for sure, one of my heroes! Taking on spectra gas co. I've got your back Jersey City, Hoboken and Manhattan's West Village! And yours too, Mayor Healy.

Thank You Mayor Healy!

I remember I used to walk past with my Mother, when I was a little girl and all of you used to say hi to me.

Too much rhetoric about Obama being black.
We all know he's African American, this is no secret.

One guy named pete said "name one black hero".
I quote, pete said:
"I have a black hero. Tiger Woods! To me, most every other black person is a disaster. Look at Barry Bonds, Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield, Gary Sheffield, Charles Barkley, Al Sharpton, Jessie Jackson. Name me a black hero!! I'm waiting"
Commented by pete-June 14, 2008

pete didn't have too long to wait.

Wrong attitude, wrong person!

So I did.
I answered:
You're a bit of a disaster yourself, Pete.
You want the name of an African American hero, ok,

Financial Aid Grants Are Free. No Repayment Ever!
You don't have to be a genius or have had great marks in high school to get into college nowadays. They may just make you take a couple of easy tests to see what Freshman classes are good for you. No academic requirements for financial aid.

Then there's Work Study. An easy job at minimum wage.

Federal Work-Study

What is work-study?

Anyone can go to college. You don't have to be in or just out of high school. I was 28 when I started college.
I went to school with people who worked full time and still got straight A's. Better grades than I.

Call the Financial Aid Department of the college or university you want to attend and ask them any questions you have, or for an interview there for help getting the financial aid application completed.

I know a person can go to college with just financial aid. I did.

If you get really good marks as an undergraduate, there are a lot of good internships and scholarships. to pay for post graduate work.

Try never to take student loans.
It's better to go to a Good school that may not have such a big name, than to go into debt for ten years.

Some students may be able to get help paying off student loans; for certain professions like becoming teachers, doctors, etc. if you are willing to work in under served areas for a number of years.
Americorps Offers Some Financial Help For Students Too.

Student loans are good, if one is sure they can pay them off. Otherwise they're trouble.

Some of the smallest schools have the best teachers. Know what you want to learn and choose a school by how compatible they are with your goals.

America Can Be The Promised Land!
Take advantage of our Free Educational System.
You could learn a lot.

College is Free in America. Grants alone will pay the cost of many very good colleges. And the student should have over $700 left a semester, after tuition and books. Probably more nowadays, depends on financial income family size, etc.

Pass the DREAM Act!
Those who were brought here at a young age should have a chance to earn their citizenship and give back to the country they call home.

Don't try this at home.

My Father was born on Grand Street in New York City (Manhattan) 1893.

His Mother; Sarah, (my Grandmother), was a Orthodox Rabbi's Daughter. She and her family immigrated, from Latvia to Nre Yotk City about 1880.

His Father (my Grandfather), came all the way from Russia as a young man; all by himself, (he had a brother already living in Connecticut). Around the 1880's too.

I know he, (Nathan) and my Grandmother were married before 1888. Because he always said my Father's older Sister Florence, was born during the Blizzard of 88'!

They moved to Bayonne NJ; (where some of my Grandmother's relatives lived), when my Father was about 7 years old.

The guy in the picture isn't my Father. It's my cousin Sam Hock. He played the kazoo.

The woman at the bar is my Mother Mary (Jean, her nickname).

The following poem appeared on the editorial page of the Daily Princetonian. April, 1949

Sammy's New York bar and grill
Is selling nickel beer.
Hurrah for Sammy, swill your fill.
And move your bar down here.
Sammy cut his price way down
The five-cent glass of cheer.
Oh leave that there ungrateful town,
Please move your bar down here.
Sammy, Sammy, save the day,
Our throats are growing sore,
Those G. I. checks are a month away,
So bring that bar down here.
Sammy, also bring your bock,
The other boys may sneer,
But we'll not buy their watered stock,
If you move your bar down here.
Sammy Atkins, you're our man,
You've nothing bad to fear.
We'll disregard the picket ban,
When you move your bar down here.
Sam, you know, a five-cent glass
has never had a peer;
The price will take the place of class.
Come on, move your bar down here.

Although Cab Was A Brilliant and Loving Man, people back in the 1930's,
didn't know how harmful drugs were, when he used to sing so lightly about them.

Funny story: My Father was a Fireman in the 1930's and 40's and he was the President of The Bayonne Fireman's Benevolent Association.

He used to run shows for the Firemen and Police at our DeWitt, Movie Theater.

Cab used to come over and do shows all the time. The Cops And Firemen Loved Cab and his music!

Sovereign States And Dependent Territories In Africa

In recent years peace has been seemingly within reach, largely due to the Juba Peace Talks. From June 2006 to March 2008 in Juba, Sudan, the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) and the Government of Uganda (GoU) engaged in a series of peace talks in order to end the conflict. These peace talks, supported by special envoys from the United States and other nations, allowed for the longest period of peace in northern Uganda’s 23-year war.

The Juba Peace Talks developed with hope for a lasting resolution, and concluded in March of 2008 with the Final Peace Agreement (FPA) ready for the signature of Joseph Kony and President Museveni. However, in April of 2008, Kony twice failed to appear and sign the FPA and officially ended the Juba talks mediated by the Southern Sudanese government. Joseph Kony’s stated reasons for not signing the FPA were a vague understanding of the treaty’s systems regarding post-conflict justice and an apprehension toward ICC warrants for him and four other LRA leaders. Since the collapse of the peace talks, the LRA has been active in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Central African Republic (CAR) and southern Sudan, drawing widespread disapproval from the international community and igniting a new urgency to end what has become a complex regional conflict.

In the last two years, an estimated 900,000 of the 1.8 million displaced have returned to their homes. But that leaves one million people currently living in the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps. While the majority desires to return home, the issues surrounding their return are complex. Some have been displaced for more than a decade, and their former way of life is all but gone. Access to clean water, economic opportunities, health centers, and education are a pressing concern for all, and even more so for the many who contemplate returning to resource-barren villages.

The Rolling Chairs In Atlantic City, NJ ☆In Honor Of Black History Month☆

Real African American Heroes

Atlantic City's First Rolling Chairs

My Parents and I, used to go to Atlantic City all the time when I was young, (1950's and 60's). I had Cousins who lived there.

My Cousin Roy and I used to ride on the rolling chairs together every time I visited. (The more modern ones that Roy and I used to ride on were open in the front and on the sides).

Roy was one of the nicest young people I've ever met. He was grown up when he was 11. Roy didn't fight with a girl the way most boys did.

Everyone on the boardwalk knew and loved, my Cousin Roy, he used to run errands for them all.

We had such a good time on the rolling chairs and I remember the middle aged African American Men who used to push them from one end of the Boardwalk to the other! African-American Workers Crucial To Atlantic City's Rise by Kathleen O'Brien/The Star-Ledger February 24 2012

The Atlantic City Boardwalk was so beautiful back then! I remember the Steel Pier And Salt Water Taffy. The Planters Peanut Store, Mr. Peanut walking around, The pigeons who would eat peanuts out of your hand, Ripley's little museum on the Steel Pier, The Diving Horse, cotton candy, candy apples, The salt water taffy store and so much more. But riding on the rolling chairs with my Cousin Roy was the best!

These are my memories of Atlantic City.

Mountaintop removal (MTR) coal mining is one of America’s worst environmental crimes!

Every day, across Appalachia, the coal industry literally blows the tops off the mountains: clear-cutting forests, wiping out natural habitats and poisoning rivers and drinking water. Not only are these mountains lost forever, but the heritage and the health of families across the region are being sacrificed. For a mere 7 percent of the nation’s coal, the tradeoff does not add up!

Oglala Lakota College
From its inception in 1971, our college’s mission has been to provide the educational credentials to our students so that they could compete for employment opportunities on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.

As a result of having a college on the reservation; Lakota people are now employed in teaching, nursing, human services, business, computer, and vocational educational positions on the Pine Ridge reservation.

In 1980 the Supreme Court ruled upon the longest running court case in US History, the United States vs Sioux Nation. The court determined that the terms of the 1868 Fort Laramie Treaty had been violated when the Sioux were resettled onto P.O.W. camps, and 7 million acres of their land were opened up to prospectors and homesteaders. These camps are now called “reservations”.

The grim statistics on Native Reservations today are the equivalent to that of a 3rd world country, revealing the legacy of colonization and treaty violations. Unemployment on the Reservation fluctuates between 80-90%. Many are homeless, and those with homes are packed into rotting buildings with up to 5 families. More than 90% of the population lives below the federal poverty line. Make A Difference

Fighting Hunger Is A Team Effort!
The Good Samaritan Hunger Relief Tax Incentive Act
Feeding America’s nationwide network provides food to 25 million people every year, and strong U.S. government programs are also vital to meet the nutritional needs of low-income Americans. The business sector, including farmers, food manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers, and others, also plays an instrumental role in battling hunger. By donating food and transportation and promoting volunteerism, businesses of all sizes help put food on the tables of families in need. While businesses already make substantial contributions to fight hunger, improved public policies, particularly passage of the Good Samaritan Hunger Relief Tax Incentives Act, will promote even greater business participation in this effort.
