We provide food, medicine, bed linens, clothing, eyeglasses, hearing aids, utility payments, and other items for those unable to exist on their pensions. Since the break up of the Soviet Union in 1991 with the resulting hyperinflation, pensions have become almost worthless. At the same time, food, clothing, medicine and apartments are no longer subsidized by the government, and the prices for these have risen beyond the reach of most pensioners.

Dream Act Not Passed
Dream Act isn't to be for immigrants like Bernard Pastor
Hardly a sound could be heard from the gallery when the legislation failed, but when the students gathered in a room in the Capitol Visitor Center afterward, the tears began to flow.
Pastor was asked to lead the group in prayer. "We need not worry about what can happen today or tomorrow," said the devout, Guatemala-born Pastor, who wants to follow in his father's footsteps and be a minister. "Our day of joy is coming soon."
Then, together, the young people from all over the country who are without a country recited the Pledge of Allegiance

This bill would provide certain inadmissible or deportable alien students who graduate from US high schools, who are of good moral character, arrived in the U.S. as minors, and have been in the country continuously for at least five years prior to the bill's enactment, the opportunity to earn conditional permanent residency.

The alien students would obtain temporary residency for a six year period. Within the six year period, a qualified student must have "acquired a degree from an institution of higher education in the United States or [have] completed at least 2 years, in good standing, in a program for a bachelor's degree or higher degree in the United States," or have "served in the uniformed services for at least 2 years and, if discharged, [have] received an honorable discharge."
